Rollin' on the River

We took in many sites as we did the "Show Me KC" tour. This is Dorothy and Norma, at the "Steamship Arabia" in the Farmer's Market area of KC...and as DJ says.... we are ignoring the man in the background because he is neither young nor wirey. Read the sign in the Patee House picture to understand what I mean.

Stay off the Sauce

Arthur Bryant's is a world reknown restaurant here in KC. Even US presidents have eaten there. We didn't actually eat here...because we went to the wrong boat on the first try. Iola and Mike gave us a drive-by of the Plaza..and we just stopped by here to buy some bar-b-que-sauce.

The Dirty Little Coward, that Shot Mr. Howard

We saw the house where Jessee James was shot and killed, in St. Joseph......the bullet hole is still in the wall!!
along with a couple of good 'ol Missouri mules in Independance. One of them was named "Harry S."...The wagon driver told us that stood for "Hairy A##"

Give Me Liberty or...uh...Just Give Me a Diet Pepsi

We went to The Liberty Bank...where the first "daylight" bank robbery in the US took place....
There is a bank in Vermont that claims this same thing...but the guy who did THEIRS was just drunk...didn't get any money...and didn't even have a gun!! This robbery ended with one man dead, and the robbers got away with what today would be valued at over 3 million dollars!! Now THAT'S a bank robbery!! It was believed to be masterminded by Jessee James himself, although he was at home sick in bed at the time of the robbery.
....and ate at The Hardware Cafe.

Walk This Way

This is our tour guide, and "famous" personality, Donna Jean...also known as Deputy Dawg. Whenever she held up her brocheur, we all had to follow her.

From St. Joe to Sacramento

The famous(?) Pony Express statue.

Across the Wide Butts...er..I mean..Missouri!!

The girls on the "Mighty Mo" Notice the barge heading down river, just to the left of Suzi (in Missouzi).

Want Ad

The Patee House Hotel was used as the headquarters for the Pony Express.
Can you read the sign?
Now it is a museum ALL about St. Joseph's history. There is a dentist's chair on display there from the office of Walter Kronkite's father. He was a prominent dentist in St. Joseph some years ago. (Dorothy actually was a patient of his, and sat in that exact chair. I guess we really ARE antique!!)

We eat..Food Good!!

DJ, Dorothy, Suzi (in Mizzoui) and Norma Bea, enjoy a late Mexican feast in St. Joseph.

TWISTER!!!!

What is a vacation in Missouri without the dreaded thunderstorm? We even got to go "down cellar" where we huddled in safety for an hour. This is the sunset after the storm. (Whew)
Oh, joy..oh joy...This is Suzi having fun....
